It’s Friday, and it’s nearly fall, so we all know what that means: Football!
One man who knows a lot about the topic is Tony Lenahan, sports editor of The Saline Courier. Tony has worked for the paper for eight years after graduating from UA Little Rock with a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication in 2010.
As sports editor, Tony writes, edits copy, takes photographs, designs the paper and manages the sports department. It’s the perfect job for “a sports nut and stat fiend like me,” Tony says. “I’ve been recording statistics on sports since I was 12 years old, and though I didn’t envision being a sportswriter, I happily fell into it.”
How is your career different than what you envisioned while you were studying?
“I was probably going to be a teacher and a coach if I didn’t get into writing.”
Who was a faculty member at UA Little Rock who made a strong impact on you and your career path?
“Sonny Rhodes. Though most of the Mass Comm professors were great, Sonny went above and beyond to help me and other Mass Comm students.”
What is your favorite memory from your time at UA Little Rock?
“Probably working for The Forum, establishing relationships there and covering the Trojans.”
What advice would you give to current students?
“Make sure you love what you’re getting yourself into.”
Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
“I have an 8-year-old son, Dalton, and two dogs, Rebel and Scout.”
