North Little Rock native Dustin Jayroe is a senior who is studying mass media with a minor in political science. He currently writes for Arkansas Money & Politics, Screen Rant, and CBR (Comic Book Resources).
Dustin initially started college in 2010 at the University of Central Arkansas. After about a year and a half he left school, partly to help his family out financially. He began again in the spring of 2014, enrolling part time at UA-Pulaski Tech. Dustin stayed there until 2018, when he transferred to UA Little Rock to finish his undergraduate degree. For the past two semesters he has been a full-time student while also managing a hotel, in addition to his freelance writing work.
“Needless to say, life is extremely busy and stressful right now,” he said, “but seeing that light at the end of the tunnel makes it all worth it.”
What made you choose the UA Little Rock School of Mass Communication?
“I chose UALR because it offered me a dynamic array of Mass Communications emphasis branches to choose from, and because it was inclusive to a full-time work schedule, with so many online class options.”
What has been your favorite memory at UA Little Rock?
“Stepping foot on campus for the first time last fall. This has been a long journey for me, to get to this point, and there were plenty of times along the way when I did not think finishing my degree would be possible. When I arrived on campus last fall, I knew that this was the home stretch – that it was finally happening.”
Where do you see yourself in five years?
“Hopefully, working as an editor for a news publication.”
